About Diane ….

Diane Oake Psychologist

Diane is an experienced clinical psychologist now working in the Sutherland Shire. She offers a balance of compassionate engagement with a down-to-earth approach. Diane combines wisdom and skill in evidence-based therapy, to help clients feel heard and connected. With her characteristic warmth and maturity Diane creates a safe space for a range of effective therapies to be carried out.

 

Diane is an Adjunct Lecturer with the University of NSW School of Women’s and Children’s Health. She has contributed to the National Standards of Care for Congenital Heart Disease, and research into the mental health and neurodevelopmental impacts of congenital heart disease.

Special interests….

PTSD and EMDR Therapy

Diane has worked extensively in the area of post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, with both children and adults. She is trained in EMDR therapy, a specialist therapy to help reprocess traumatic memories. This therapy is recognised as effective in the treatment of PTSD, and is also effective in treating many other psychological disorders.

Perinatal Mental Health

Diane has a special interest in perinatal mental health, having worked extensively with parents experiencing postnatal depression and anxiety, birth trauma, and or challenges with their babies. Diane has convened a Masters course in Perinatal Mental Health with University of New South Wales, and has completed training with the Centre for Perinatal Psychology.

ADHD

Diane has a special interest in the diagnosis and management of ADHD across the lifespan. She is a strong advocate for children who might need support to succeed in the school system, and young people who may be struggling to find their way in the world.

Children, Adolescents and Families

Diane has extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents, and believes strongly in the importance of the family unit. Diane has also worked with children in out-of-home care, and has supported many children in adjusting to parental separation and divorce. Diane spent many years working the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network with children facing serious illness. She is trained in emotion coaching therapy and attachment-based family therapy.
